Labels:text | screenshot OCR: There are two species of weasels in Alaska: the short-tailed weasel or ermine and the least weasel. In summer, both species of weasels are medium to dark brown above, with yellowish underparts. In winter, they turn white. The least weasel reaches a maximum length of 10 inches and prefers mice. Weasels hunt both at night and during the day and locate their prey chiefly by scent, typically pouncing on it with their forefeet and biting the back of its neck Weasels prefer forested, brushy and open country. They have few natural enemies of significance, except possibly the great horned owl and marten. Hawks, foxes, coyotes, and lynx also occasionally kill weasels.
